About the symposium

This symposium is an international event organized by the Biotechnology Research Institute (BRI) in Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The symposium aims to bring together international biotechnology stakeholders (researchers, lecturers, students, industrialist and bureaucrats) to discuss recent developments in research in biotechnology and synchronize all stakeholder interests in order to strengthen the linkage among stakeholders. The symposium will focus on topics related to genomic, molecular microbiology, bioinformatics, bioprocess engineering, tissue culture, biochemistry and natural products. Altogether, the symposium will feature oral and poster presentation sessions coupled with plenary sessions by prominent speakers. Further, selected papers from this symposium will be published in an international Scopus-indexed journal.

 

 

About Biotechnology Research Institute

The Biotechnology Research Institute (BRI) was established in January 2002 to function as Center of Excellence in the field of biotechnology at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS). The establishment of BRI is in tandem with the nation's efforts to promote research and development in biological or life sciences for the improvement of the quality of human life in relations to medicine, food, agricultural science and environmental protection.

UMS is located in the heart of Sabah which is the Kota Kinabalu. UMS is one of the most beautiful university campuses in the country, with fascinating landscape, lush greeneries and impressive structures. Indeed, UMS is the only University in Malaysia with its own beach and jetty. Ever since its establishment, UMS has made consistent efforts to develop modern infrastructures while conserving the existing biota. Various academic and non-academic facilities such as highly-resourced libraries, high end teaching and research instruments and laboratories, multimedia laboratories, WiFi, internet and online facilities, sport centers and outdoor facilities, students’ centers and hostels are available to enrich the students’ varsity life.  Several supporting offices and centers are established with efficient management to provide effective services and safe environment to students for a better and memorable campus life while enhancing effective learning experiences.
